Training Opportunities for Master & Doctor Level Students

Practicum Opportunities*

Practicum Students Welcome!

Our Center considers our participation in the clinical training of graduate and pre-doctoral students a high priority and an important contribution to the field of psychology and mental health services.  CDPCC offers students an opportunity to gain a wide variety of clinical experience under excellent supervision.  Our Center is unique in that its staff is trained in theology, degreed in the behavioral health sciences, and licensed by the State of Illinois.  Thus, our clients know we will respect their religious tradition should they wish to use that as a resource in their healing process and trust our clinical expertise.

Master-level students: Students enrolled in a Marriage and Family program who are preparing for the MFT license are encouraged to apply.  We also consider students in clinical mental health master of arts programs who are preparing for the LCPC license.  We interview master level students during the same time frame as doctoral level students and make offers soon after the match for doctoral practicum students is finished.

Doctorate-level students: We offer diagnostic and therapy practicum experiences for students in doctoral programs who are preparing for the clinical psychology licensing.  These same opportunities are also available to students taking part in the CACTC internship program who are in their last year of their doctoral program (see below).

What to expect when interviewing: We follow the ACEPT and APPIC guidelines and dates in our selection process. Given the volume of applicants, all of our counseling staff participate in the interviewing process.  Students ordinarily have a 45 minute interview with one staff member (i.e., a pastoral counselor or psychologist).  Towards the end of the interviewing calendar, those students deemed to be strong candidates will be invited to return for a brief interview, in order to meet the entire staff and ask any questions that may have arisen since the first interview.

Please  direct all questions to Dr. Ann Letourneau, CSJ, at 630-752-9750, ext. 22.

Application Guidelines: Students interested in completing a master’s level marriage and family or therapy practicum, a diagnostic practicum, an externship, or advanced practicum are welcome to apply. When applying, please send the following, together in a single envelope or single email:

  1. A cover letter detailing the type of position you are seeking
  2. A curriculum vitae
  3. An official transcript of your coursework
  4. Three reference letters – sent directly from the reference to Dr. Letourneau via email or directly through the postal mail
  5. For those requesting an advanced or diagnostic practicum, please send a writing sample or assessment report.
  6. Letter of approval to begin practicum (1st year only)

CACTC Internships

The Center is pleased to partner with the Chicago Area Christian Training Consortium, which is an APA-accredited doctoral training program. The purpose of the Consortium (CACTC) is to strengthen service delivery to under-served persons and their communities by means of equipping and preparing graduate students to work competently with these groups.
